Sweatin鈥 the Good Sweat

At the heart of the Marching 110 is its drumline, led by section leader Joe Huster, BBA 鈥19. Members commit 12 hours weekly during the regular football season, balancing their dedication to excellence with the challenges of being college students.

The Marching 110鈥檚 drumline is at the heart of what the Marching 110 is all about: drive, effort, and passion.

The drumline section leader, Joe Huster, BBA 鈥19, joins marching section leaders Benji Battiste, BS 鈥18, and Zach Walton, BSC 鈥19, in inspiring section members to practice often and perform at the highest level. That translates into members often spending 12 hours of practice each week during OHIO鈥檚 regular football season, not a small commitment of time for a busy college student. And those 12 hours don鈥檛 include the time band members spend learning music or performing. Huster sums up why they do it.

鈥淎s soon as you take any heart out of the work that you鈥檙e doing, people are no longer impressed. That鈥檚 not something that we鈥檙e about.鈥

With such a heightened time commitment, drumline members have to practice the art of  balancing rehearsals with classes, studying, and finding time to be a college student.

But they don鈥檛 mind. The effort builds easy friendships between members says cymbals player Michelle Lerner, BMUS 鈥20.

鈥淚 couldn鈥檛 imagine a sweeter group of people,鈥 Lerner says. 鈥淲e鈥檙e all one big happy family.鈥
